Entry Information

Archery New Zealand invites entries to the National Outdoor Championships from archers who are affiliated members of Archery New Zealand, or affiliated to World Archery. 

Archers entering the Championships and Matchplay Open events may compete in the following divisions:  

• Barebow
• Compound
• Longbow
• Recurve
• Traditional

In the above divisions, archers may elect to compete in the following competition classes:

• Open
• Under 11 years
• Under 14 years
• Under 16 years
• Under 18 years
• Under 21 years
• Masters 50+
• Masters 65+
• Development

Please note that the Novice class is not offered at this year’s National Outdoor Championships, but archers in their first year of archery may choose to compete in their relevant age class, or the Development class.

Tournament Format

Field Championship Events

The Field Championships will be decided by a two-day event on 18th and 19th April. The first day will be a WA Unmarked 3D 24 Target round, and the second day will be WA Marked 24 Target round. Medals and rankings will be determined by archers’ total scores across both days of shooting.

The 3D Round consists of 24 unmarked 3D animal targets. Two arrows are shot per target. Distances will be from 5 m-45 m for archers shooting from the red peg; 5 m-30 m for archers shooting from the blue peg.

The WA Marked 24 Target round consists of 24 field targets at marked distances. Three arrows are shot per peg. Distances will be from 10 m-60 m for archers shooting from the red peg; 5 m-45 m from the blue peg; and 5 m-35 m for archers shooting from the yellow peg.

Field Matchplay

The Field Matchplay event will be provisionally contested in the following categories (subject to change pending entry numbers):

• Women’s Recurve (red peg)
• Men’s Recurve (red peg)
• Women’s Compound (red peg)
• Men’s Compound (red peg)
• Barebow Mixed (blue peg)

Archers must be eligible for the category, and shoot off the same peg as the Open class shoots.  The top four ranked archers qualify for entry to the match play. If a position is declined, it will be offered to the next highest ranked archer, and so on.

The match play consists of a single round, contested over four targets as selected by the LOC (TBC 3D or target).  1st vs. 2nd ranked archers will compete for the gold/silver medals, and 3rd vs. 4th ranked will contest the bronze medal.

Clout Championship Event

The clout is contested over a single Archery NZ Cclout round (36 arrows).  Archery NZ members will compete for a Robin Hood or Maid Marion award for the closest arrow to the flag on the first sighting arrow – please remember to mark your arrow with your name and competitor number!

Target Championship Events

The Target Championship comprises two WA 72-arrow ranking round events.  The Target Championships and medals will be decided based on archers’ combined scores across both rounds.

Individual Matchplay Events

Individual elimination matchplay will be run for all categories where there are four or more archers in the category.  Archers will be ranked using their combined scores from both 72-arrow rounds. Where less than four archers enter a matchplay category, the LOC reserves the right to combine classes in matchplay brackets, as per the Archery NZ Tournament Rules.

The finals day includes the bronze medal and gold medal matches for each of the following categories:

• Open Women’s Barebow
• Open Men’s Barebow
• Open Women’s Recurve
• Open Men’s Recurve
• Open Women’s Compound
• Open Men’s Compound

Matchplay events will be provided with a warmup that immediately precedes the first match for that session, or a dedicated, ranged, practice field will be available throughout, and timing will be controlled with the main shooting line.

Three-person Team Matchplay Events

There are five Team Matchplay events being held this year as detailed below, provided there are a minimum of four teams entering each.  Ranking will be off the combined score of both WA 72-arrow rounds, with a cut to the top 8 ranked teams for each category:

• 50 m Barebow (B50T)
• 60 m Recurve (R60T)
• 70 m Recurve (R70T)
• 50 m Compound (C50T)
• Youth (YT)

Teams can be made up of any combination of three archers of the same bow type (regardless of gender) with the exception of the Youth Matchplay where recurve, barebow, and compound archers may be combined with a maximum of one compound archer per team. In the Youth Teams Matchplay, compounds will shoot an 80 cm face while other bow types will shoot a 122 cm face.

The medal matches for the 70 m Recurve, 50 m Barebow, and 50 m Compound Teams Matchplay events will be included in the Matchplay Finals’ Day. Other medal matches will be shot on the team eliminations day.

Teams must be submitted to the Administration team during registration.

The Finals Day includes the bronze medal and gold medal matches for each of the following categories:

• 50 m Barebow 3-person Team
• 70 m Recurve 3-person Team
• 50 m Compound 3-person Team

 

Entry fee information

Individual Event Entry Fees:

$125 – Field Championship Entry

$55 – Clout Championship Entry

$175 – Target & Matchplay Events Entry

 

Other Fees:

$50 – Late Entry Fee – mandatory for all entries received after 21st March 2025 (Closing Date for Entries) until 4 April 2025, only at discretion of events admin pending availability.

$89 – Banquet Meal Ticket

Notes:

• After completing your entry form, you will receive an email with the details of your event entry, total entry fee to pay, and details on how to make a payment.  Please check this email carefully, and email eventsadmin@archery.org.nz if you need to make any changes or adjustments.
• Officials’ Levies and Equipment Levies are included within the entry fees.
• Your entry for this event will not be confirmed until full payment has been received.
• If an entry is withdrawn before the Closing Date (21st March 2025) then a full refund will be made; if withdrawal is made after the Closing Date then 50% of the fee may be refunded at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.
