The Archery NZ Interclub Challenge is an interclub competition between Archery clubs that is run by Archery NZ annually from October to April (inclusive).
The objective of the Challenge is to promote fair competition across all divisions and classes by providing rounds and formats that encourage comparable scores. These rules are reviewed regularly between competition seasons and amended as required to ensure no one class or division has an unfair advantage.
The annual competition has 6 divisions, usually with 6 teams per division (some lower divisions may have less). Each division is a round robin competition. The season includes 5 rounds:
- Round 1: October-November
- Round 2: December-January
- Round 3: February
- Round 4: March
- Round 5: April
The Challenge is contested by teams from affiliated clubs. Each club chooses to have up to three teams in the season. Clubs can have any number of members participate in the shoot but all must shoot together on the same day (not required to be in the same place). Scores must be verified by an adult member of the club (i.e. you can’t score alone) and each archer can shoot the round only once on the selected day. Clubs set their own dates for their Interclub Challenge shoots within each round period above.
Each club submits all its members’ scores to the Interclub Coordinator, no matter how many archers participated in the shoot that day. The top 3 scores from each club make up each team for that round. For example, if your club has two teams entered, then the top three archers’ scores become the A team and the next 3 the B team for that round. This “team of 3” does not persist between rounds.
Full rules for the Interclub Challenge are in the Archery NZ Competition Rules and the rounds being shot are described in the Archery NZ Shooting Rules.
If your club is interested in entering the Challenge for the next year or you have any questions, please contact the Interclub Coordinator via e-mail at interclub@archery.org.nz. If you are an individual archer wishing to shoot in the Interclub Challenge, please contact your club.
Interclub Challenge Rules
In mid-2025, full rules for the Interclub Challenge were integrated into the Archery NZ Competition Rules. Find details there about the club-level management of scores, teams, etc., and about eligibility requirements.

Round Details for Interclub Challenge shoots
The Archery NZ Interclub Challenge uses a modification of the Canadian 900 round with different target faces, plus several modified shorter rounds, to accommodate a range of categories. These rounds use ten-zone scoring, with two practice ends at the longest distance only. No sighting ends are permitted at distances 2 and 3 during the shoot. Distances must be shot in descending order.
80 cm 10-5 spot faces may be used at any point during the shoot if desired. For those shooting 122 cm faces particularly at short distances, faces may be folded into squares showing only the 10-9-8 rings, with 3 such folded faces mounted onto a target butt in a triangular pattern in a similar way to mounting compound 80 cm 10-5 spot faces.
