Ivan Powley 1937-2024 Archer- Administrator- Innovator
It is with sadness that we note the passing away of Ivan Powley on 15/8/2024 at St Andrew’s, Dunedin, after a long battle with illness.
Ivan’s much loved wife Ann, and his daughter Christine, have cared for him and nurtured him since he became ill in 2018, they will miss him, as will many other people.
Ivan’s Archery Service and Achievements
Ivan has been an archer for more than 60 years. Ivan is a Life Member of Archery NZ (awarded 1995), South Island Districts Archery Association (SIDAA) and the Dunedin Archery Club (DAC).
These Life memberships of three Archery organisations are an indication of the respect that Ivan Powley has earned in a career covering more than 60 years in a sport that Ivan was passionate about and worked very hard to improve the sport in many ways.
Ivan’s contributions to Archery in NZ make a very long list. Ivan attended FITA Congress and achieved improvements in the way that Tournaments are run, Managed the Olympic Team (in LA 1984), and a number of World Championship teams.

- Organiser for AOTAC tournament and Nationals in Dunedin and Christchurch
- Organiser for multi-venue National Indoor Tournaments

Ivan was an office bearer in many positions for SIDAA. In Dunedin Archery Club, Ivan filled positions at every level. National Clout Champion (x 7) South Island Clout Titles (many)
